Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903) was an American writer working in the genres humour and satire and collecting folklore. He studied American and European traditions and travelled a lot while working as a journalist. Leland became famous for his comic book 'Hans Breitman's Ballads'.

This is an old Indian legend that was collected and retold  by Charles Leland. Once an Indian man get whirled up by a storming wind. He gets magical wings as the gift and soon meets the great Chief of the Thunders who tells him that the man will become one of the thunder gods if he wants to. Will the stranger agree?
