疟疾的典型症状为突发的寒战、高热。发病初期因疟原虫在红细胞内繁殖，破坏了大批红细胞，同时释放出各种细胞因子及代谢产物，进入血液，引起寒战、高热，继之大汗的典型症状。寒战持续10分钟～2小时，同时伴有体温迅速上升，可达40℃以上，持续2～6小时后缓解。
