Harrie Irving Hancock was an American chemist and writer of children's literature in the late 19th-20th centuries. Being a talented and sensitive person Hancock wrote fantastic stories for the children. He strongly believed that "boys want the thrill of feeling 'grown-up'" and that they like books about heroes and adventures. 
The series of book “The Young Engineers” is consisted of five titles originally published by the Henry Altemus Company between 1912 and 1920. A final phantom title, "The Young Engineers in the Land of Lead" was advertised but never published. The main heroes are well known to readers from the «High School Boys Series». In this new series «The Young Engineers in Mexico» Tom Reade and Harry Hazelton are yet more proof to be members of Dick & Co.
