Before they could make any progress they would have to get past that slobbering monkey.
That was going to be a difficult task if the two boys could not remain quiet. Chad knew that he could keep himself under control, as for his brother Thad that was going to be a difficult thing to do. He had a strange problem of expelling gas when he got scared and that was quite often. There was something about the sound and smell of the toxic vapor that always caused Thad to break out into laughter.
Mother had taught them that the polite way to handle the situation was to quietly say that “I rumpled.” “Who says that Mom?” “Why my boys will if they know what is good for them,” she replied with a stern voice. Most of the time Thad responded the way that mom wanted him to. Mom was not here and so he laughed loudly and said, “I pooted.”
That was it; the monkey heard him and we saw his eyes searching the room to find where the smell and the noise had come from. “Good going Thad,” I said. “Sorry,” he replied.
