The Difficulty of Crossing a Field

One summer morning a planter was sitting with his wife and a child on the veranda. The planter had a big field which was about ten acres. At the time, there was not even a domestic animal in the field. But in another field were at work about a dozen of slaves. The planter saw his mate who wanted to sell him some horses and lazily went towards the seller. After a small chat they parted and the seller remembered important details about the deal.
