Miles is a typical graduate student, close to finishing his masters in Physics until he makes a decision that demolishes his academic career. As he tries to sort out his future after school, Miles slowly realizes that Simone, another graduate student, has a genuine interest in him. As his understanding parents work to reduce Miles' anxiety over leaving school, he has his first unnerving encounter with a group of homicidal animals. They resemble ferocious bears after his father’s livestock and they won’t be stopped by conventional methods. Only a last minute attempt to employ a laser from Miles’ physics project seems to drive them off, or so it would appear.
The unsettling event doesn't delay Miles from moving out of his college apartment. After he packs his things Miles stops by for one last beloved slice at the pizza place where Simone works. His conversation with Simone is interrupted by the unwelcome appearance of the bear-like creatures that wreak a frightening amount of mayhem just across the street. Miles and Simone aren’t the only ones who encounter with these creatures; their appearance is global and destruction follows in their wake. Are they mutated bears that escaped from a lab or something from another world? The Band aren’t here by accident; they have a Purpose.
