This e-book is an English version of “Il Cane da Pecora Abruzzese” published in 2017. The latter in turn is the ultimate development of “Il Cane da Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese” which first appeared in 1977 and was re-edited repeatedly until 1993. The progressive change in the name as the editions succeeded each other bears witness to the dwindling of the hope the Author had of keeping together the fancier’s conformation breed, officially known as the Cane da Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese, and the working dog of the shepherds. Since then I have realised that this is asking the impossible so that the book deals exclusively with the working dog.

With the return of the wolf in parts of Europe the APD is undergoing a great new season. But because mistakes are being made in those areas where the shepherds had no previous knowledge of this kind of dog, the book gives advice on how to prepare and use an APD.

The Author has also been responsible for the recovery of another old working dog of Italy, the Cane da Corso, described in a separate book with an Italian and English editions
