This novel is fi lled with very different police war stories. It relates the career of an offi cer who has tried his best to serve and protect. But, as we read his story, a very different future for our character emerges. He has been caught up in the selfi sh, power-abusing, Speed Trap mentality of a big-city police department that is not what it claims to be. After twenty-fi ve years of service, he is fi red for passing notes in class! Now, with no future whatsoever, he is approached about beginning on a new path of service. He becomes an erasera professional assassin, a career that he never imagined during his life of service. He concludes his tale about his life with a description of a secret society of wealthy people that he works for. They can afford their own justice system, and he is a key part of it
