Revel in Portland volume 1 is published by creative collective, Harris + Grube: Editor + Publisher, Janice Grube; Design Director, Carolin Harris. We join Revel In New York guidebooks 1, 2 and 3. The Revel In brand was founded in NY by managing editors, Marc Santo and Scott Newman. In this first Portland edition, filmmaker, Lance Bangs talks about the surreal moment involving Bruce Springsteen and Nicki Minaj- a moment that made him question "how did I end up here?" We see a stunning West Hills residence, designed by architect, Jeff Kovel, and used as a lair for a family of vampires in a little film series called "Twilight". Self proclaimed "under-achiever", and award-winning illustrator, Carson Ellis, reminisces about a time she fell in love with Portland, as well as her husband, musician/author, Colin Meloy. Legendary Nike shoe designer, Tinker Hatfield, talks about his transition from young athlete to one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. Artist, Alicia McDaid, recommends a few tricks for beating the Portland rainy day blues. She reflects back on Portland back in 1997- "the wild west of the DIY '90s". Professional photographer, Ray Gordon, credits his photography for keeping him out of jail. He asks our readers to invite him over if they're ever brave enough to take the El Jefe challenge at Fire On the Mountain. And he's the kind of guy that will actually show up then buy you a beer afterwards. Also included in this issue- interviews with chef, John Gorham; chickfactor editor/publisher, Gail O'Hara; Bridge + Burn's Erik Prowell; Chromatics' Johnny Jewel + Ruth Radelet; and 72 hand-picked personal suggestions on where to eat, drink, and what to discover and explore in Portland.
