The Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm were German academics, linguists and authors specializing in collecting and publishing folklore. They are among the most famous folklore storytellers in the world. This story begins with a poor lumberjack who gives his daughter up to Our Lady. There the girls lives and grows up in welfare and happiness, until Mary gives her 13 keys but allows to open 12 doors only. The curious girl disobeys, and Our Lady, as she discovers it, tries to make her confess, but the girl refuses. Then Saint Mary sends the girl back and forces her to live in the wild forest alone as a punishment, where she is found by a local king. But Our Lady still wants the girl to confess, and keeps punishing her for being so stubborn. This is a wonderful sample of a folk tale and an edifying story for children.
