Shiva is the principle of dissolution, as an identified aspect of otherwise pure consciousness. In this respect Shiva is the Higher-Self in its awareness that it alone is responsible for all conditional manifestation appearing as the phenomenon of physicality along with concurrent awareness thereof. Arising as the universe dissolves, this realization results in the understanding that the world of “name and form” is a mere appearance which is reflected in consciousness. This reflection results from the false idea that the ego-self (conditional-self) is an executor and therefore, the reflection is thus seen to emerge from the “ground state of being” merely to accommodate the falsehood. Hence Shiva is also known as the “destroyer” since he destroys the every-day world of illusion. Devi is Shiva’s consort, as the personification of the creative principle she petitions Shiva to reveal the true nature of the universe. Shiva responds with a series of meditation points any one of which when correctly understood will cause the universe to dissolve away from within awareness to reveal the non-duel state alone
