Miscellaneous Pieces contains two works by William Makepeace Thackeray. A Little Dinner at Timmins's portrays the mid-nineteenth century bourgeoisie and tells how Timmins family gives dinner parties despite being nearly bankrupt. In John Leech's Pictures of Life and Character, Thackeray explores the works of the famous English caricaturist, John Leech, whom he admires for the appeal of his pictures and particularly the landscapes in his drawings of moor, wood, seashore, and metropolis.
