An alligator (often called a gator) looks a lot like a huge lizard.
They have thick, hard skin across the top of their body. This skin is greenish brown in color. It is covered with bony plates. These plates help keep the gator safe. They are just like a turtle's shell.
The skin on their belly is much softer and thinner. It is also much lighter in color. Some gators have a belly that is almost white in color.
This book is a shortened version of our popular “Alligators: Floating Logs of the Swamp" and is intended for beginning readers. With only 1163 easy to read words, young children can experience for themselves the joy of learning about the alligator. They will find out the answers to these questions:
How long does it take a baby alligator to hatch?
Are alligators good mothers?
Do alligators chew their food?
How does an alligator warm up?
And many more!

Ages 5 to 8
