Josephine, the daughter of a farmer, is a true country lass. Being brought up in the country gives her an insight into the plight of animals, but it’s only when Josephine learns about the cruel treatment of animals during live export, and the way that foxes are chased and torn to pieces during hunts that she starts to question her lifestyle, and decides that becoming a vegan is her only way forward. Irish Country Girl tells not only the story of Josephine and her father, but all the country folk around them. In anecdotal style, the story follows a range of people, from animal rights activists to psychics, and even covers Jack the Ripper’s mysterious murders along the way. At the heart of Irish Country Girl is an enduring love for the countryside and all it has to offer us, and a reminder that we should protect it and nurture it as it nurtures us in return.
