I remember it as if it were yesterday. The air that morning was sweet and warm as honey. As usual I had to wake up my father and make our breakfast, as well as pack our lunches and backpacks, reload the cameras and make sure we had plenty of extra fresh batteries for our venture out to sea!

On the sea, the day had gone normally. Suddenly, Daddy stopped the boat. Of course I thought he had seen something I missed. Was there a group of whales or a pair of dolphins he spotted and I missed it! He called out to me, “Princess!” I ran from the deck. “Yes, Daddy, what did I miss? What did you see?” He chuckled. “Well, I think I saw a beautiful young lady having her first driving lesson.” He motioned me toward the controls and wheel. “But, Daddy, I don’t know the switches or buttons. What if I mess up?”  “Well, I’m right here with you,” he said with a smile. “Let’s go start her up.” I looked at a stretched-out ocean that lay in front of me. Then looking at my father, I turned the key and finally it was my turn to be captain of the waking waves. I was ready to explore!
