It is 1587 and BRANAN, he has no other name, barely escapes from Dromsay, a remote and primitive island off the Scottish mainland.  He is  being hunted by the evil MacCrannon brothers, known as the Wolves of Barroch, who terrorise the islanders.   In London Branan meets Queen Elizabeth and gradually becomes a gentleman.  But he never forgets his promise to return to Dromsay and rescue Catherine Kintyre.  Catherine,  daughter of laird Dugal Kintyre, was banished to the island because she refused to marry one of the MacCrannons.   First, though, Branan must join Sir Frances Drake and fight the Spanish Armada.   Branan's journey home will be long and dangerous.

Note:  Dromsay is founded on the actual  Atlantic island of St. Kilda, forty miles off the Scottish coast.  Catherine Kintyre and her imprisonment on Domsay is based on the true 16th. century story of Lady Grange, who was banished to St. Kildab her husband.
