There are many life issues and events that adults have trouble comprehending, and this is often made more difficult by the queries and questions presented by our children. ‘But Why?’ is a term often used by children in an effort to gain a better understanding of the confusing world around them - a question that we adults can struggle to answer. The ‘But Why?’ book series offers parents and families the opportunity to explain difficult life issues to children in a comprehensive, easy to understand and most importantly entertaining way.

“But why is Mummy crying?” is the first book in the But Why? series. It follows Charlie, a young boy whose mother has been diagnosed with Depression. He is confused and scared, - that is until his favourite toy Dexter comes to life to help him through it.

In order to capture the concentration of young children a degree of entertainment must be present – regardless of how serious or difficult the issues are. Therefore, Dexter helps children through the tough life issues that are often too difficult for parents or guardians to explain. He is a stuffed toy that comes to life when children need him most – that is during times of confusion and fear.

About the Author - A qualified Psychologist, Jade Ralston worked in Childcare while completing her university degree. It was here that she recognised the need for a ‘user friendly’ and universal way to explain difficult life issues to young children. Jade has since combined her academic knowledge of developmental psychology with her child care experience to create ‘But Why in Mummy Crying’.
