This volume deals with the second Division of the Curculionoidea, the Heteromorphi, which stand between the primitive families and the more advanced remainder of the groups, as well as the first group of the advanced weevils, or Division Gonatoceri. It covers the families Nanophyidae, Rhynchophoridae and Erirhininae of Heteromorphi and the curculionid subfamily Amycterinae of Gonatoceri, section Phanerognatha. It catalogues 65 genera and 475 species, accompanied by about 600 individual drawings and black-and-white photographs. The remainder of the volume (375 pages) comprises an extensive literature on weevils, including valuable biographical notes on the most prominent authors and collectors of Australian weevils, notably Lea, the Macleays, Marshall, Pascoe and Schoenherr.
