A Fawn near the Road is intended for children between 3 and 8. It's the story of the Fawn's first outing-a trip to the river. Momma deer uses it as an opportunity to teach some life lessons, but the Fawn thinks it's just one big adventure. They're able to cross the road safely by carefully avoiding the 'angry ones.' Then the Fawn learns how to jump but isn't very good at it. At the river, he meets his cousins and has even greater adventures. One adventure involves forgetting a parent's warning, the consequences, and ultimately doing the right thing. Included in the book are 10 adorable illustrations by 10 children from grades 4 through 8. The children also drew self-portraits which are included on the last page. This book provides fun fiction with educational value. After chapters 1 and 3 are Questions for Children. These are designed to enhance understanding and comprehension, and to develop a child's ability to think about implications and consequences in the story. The questions also help a child with transformational thinking and decision making skills. All questions are neutral and there are no wrong answers. Young children will enjoy this book of fiction fused with subtle education and values. And they will absolutely love the illustrations drawn by children!
